Giovanni Malagò, President of the Italian Olympic Committee was proud and excited after his visit at the 57th Sterilgarda European Youth Championships in full progress in Riva del Garda, spending words of praise  towards the whole organization during today’s press conference at Baltera Expo Fair. Even those used to criticize all the time told me that everything is running smoothly this time. I guess this being one of the best events we have had since long time”.

Proud Franco Sciannimanico, President of Italian TT Federation, expressed his gratitude: “Riva del Garda gave us a perfect hospitality, and the figures show the event isfulfilling the expectations. AkkuzuZarif VitesseSince the Italian Olympic Committee  President, Giovanni Malagò, will come tomorrow (Friday) in Riva del Garda to attend the 57th Sterilgarda European Table Tennis Youth Championships,  accompanied by Olympic Preparation Manager Carlo Mornati, the improved importance of table tennis sport in Italy  as well as the resounding success the event underway in beautiful Garda Trentino area achieved are matters of fact.

Welcomed by Italian TT Association’s President Franco Sciannimanico, Ingarda President Marco Benedetti and European Table Tennis Union President Ronald Kramer, the Italian sport’s Chairman will hold a press conference scheduled tomorrow (Friday) at 11:30 am at Baltera Expo Fair’s conference room in Riva del Garda.

France record historic hat-trick in teams' EYC in Riva del Garda

IMG 9647In a sea of people (pardon, a lake of, as we’re in Garda Trentino) inside the Baltera Venue, the 57th Sterilgarda European Table Tennis Youth Championships concluded the teams competitions’ events assigning the first four titles. France had a great opportunity and didn’t miss it, rewriting their own story: three teams qualified for the finals and three gold medals achieved in a night of magic in Riva del Garda.

Twenty-two years after the last Soviet “hat-trick” (1992) at EYC, France outstanding performance re-established their absolute leadership within the Old Continent at youth level. Moreover, France celebrated their very first win with a girl team, by leaving Germany empty-handed in the Junior final (3:1). French boys prevailed for the eight time among juniors (3:0 vs. Poland) and for the seventh in Cadets final (3:2 vs. Romania). Only Romania broke the French “grandeur” as the Cadet girls clinched the crown (3:1 against Russia).

The first part of 57th Sterilgarda European Youth Championships is over (individual tournaments running from tomorrow, Wednesday, to Sunday), all we can do is understand if European youngsters are poised to threaten the Asian supremacy. Some rising talents among the 550 registered players in Riva del Garda are surely bound to make it big, although the Old Continent is expected to be on pursuit for many years yet.

Nevertheless, as Asian top-players usually take the stage when they’re still teenager, something similar now happens also in Europe. 12 year-old Samuel Kulczycki was the key of the Polish success in Cadets Boys final for the fifth place vs. Italy, that also highlighted a premature talent such as Carlo Rossi, 13. It never hurts to hope, though Chinese and Japanese players of the same age won World Tour’s events recently… the journey looks a long one indeed.

The sixth spot achieved by Italian Cadets was a positive outcome crowning an exciting run anyway.

TEAMS FINALS’ RESULTS

Junior Boys – 1st place: France-Poland 3:0. 3rd place: Sweden-Denmark 3:0
Junior Girls – 1st place:  France-Germany 3:1. 3rd place: Romania-Russia 3:2
Cadet Boys – 1st place:  France-Romania 3:2. 3rd place: Russia-Germany 3:1
Cadet Girls – 1st place: Romania-Russia 3-1 . 3rd place: Germany-Hungary 3:1

Packed arena in Riva del Garda highlights France supremacy at EYC

390-EuropeiTennisTavoloRiva2014-RobertoVuilleumierIn front of a packed arena at Riva del Garda’s Baltera Expo Fair, Monday's 57th Sterilgarda European Table Tennis Youth Championships semi-finals turned into long and exciting battles to appoint the teams fighting for the titles tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday July 15th, at 17:30 CET (cadet boys and juniors girls) and 20:00 CET (cadet girls and juniors boys), live on Laola1.tv.

Cadet’s semis disappointed Germany as both their teams have been overcome in straight games by France (boys) and Romania (girls), just the opposite of Romania that booked the two finals, with their cadets boys outlasting Russia 3:1.

Russian squad, whose overall performances in Riva del Garda looked quite impressive so far, got their consolation as the Cadets Girls defeated Hungary 3:1 at the penultimate stage.

Despite the previous downfalls, Germany showcased their extraordinary hunger and competitiveness among juniors: Nina Mittelham and her teammates dethroned reigning champion Romania racing to a 3:1 victory in the semis. In the ultimate stage they’ll clash France whose match vs. Russia was a struggle, but they finished.

France will also run for Junior Boys Teams’ title against Poland. France fought hard to prevail 3:2 vs. Sweden, and Can Akkuzu tonight proved to be the ace up their sleeve. Poland won easier (3:1) against surprising Denmark.

Afterwards, France was the sole country bringing three teams to play for gold. As far as hosts concerns, Italian cadets boys didn’t succeed to ride over the quarters against Germany, but still remained on track for fifth place, with Poland to overcome eventually.

57th Sterilgarda European Youth Championships team events’ finals:
Juniors Boys: France-Poland (Tuesday, 20:00 CEST)
Juniors Girls: Germany-France (Tuesday, 17:30 CEST)
Cadets Boys: Romania-France (Tuesday, 17:30 CEST)
Cadets Girls: Romania-.Russia (Tuesday, 20:00 CEST)

Germany and France in full swing at table tennis EYC in Riva del Garda

CassinGermany and France swept any doubt around their power play at 57th Sterilgarda European table tennis Youth Championships. After teams competition day3 in Riva del Garda, the two European leading countries brought their squads to quarter finals in all four competitions, though France junior boys struggled to prevail against Slovakia (3:2, Can Akkuzu scored the final point), just as German cadet boys did vs. Turkey (3:2).

Rising Russia was just one team away of reaching the feat as well, but Junior Boys were halted by Germany. Another big team, Romania, achieved the same outcome as they went into the rounds of eight with three teams, with Junior Boys out of the bunch.

Czech Republic was far away from last year’s successful track on home soil, since only one of their teams managed to earn a ticket for the top-eight.  In reverse, Round of 16 made many other countries happy to have two teams each qualified: along with Poland, Belarus, Croatia, Hungary and Sweden, Denmark beat the odds, showing two very inspired male teams, possibly trying to follow  Michael Maze’s footsteps.

Italian squad also spent an intense day: hosts achieved quarters with Cadet Boys beating Hungary (3:2), whilst Junior Girls didn’t succeed in front of Estonia.
