Germany under pressure right away: Riva del Garda EYC starts in full swing
The D-day has come, and the 57th Sterilgarda European Table Tennis Youth championships started off in style: a lukewarm sunny day out of the Baltera complex in Riva del Garda (Italy) but tough competitions took stag inside the playing halls, crowded by European boys and girls, aiming to give their best for glory in the teams events.
The German team was focus of interest from the very beginning but truly motivated opponents gave hard times to both the girls teams, needing full games to prevail over Israel (juniors) and Italy (cadets). The junior boys experienced no easier debut against the Netherlands, but Germany went on to eventually prevail 3:2.
The main day1 upset happened among Cadet Girls because of France being defeated bt Spain 2:3, whilst Cadet Boys intense duel between Serbia and Bosnia saw the former come up on top 3:1.
Ups and downs marked the Hosting team’s opening day. Among Juniors, no way for Italy vs Croatia (0:3) whilst girls beat Turkey with the same score (3:0). One win and one defeat also in Cadets events: boys had no mercy of Belarus (3:0) whilst girls shone against Germany though the final verdict was against them (2:3).
While the real competitions progress, the “Fun Zone” also started its activity in Riva del Garda downtown, offering the live matches running at Baltera’s venue (broadcasted on Laola1.tv) and the opportunity to play table tennis on the spot. Organizers expect an impressive promotional success with plenty of people welcomed and fascinated by table tennis every day from 10 am to 10 pm for the whole event’s period.
